People from the south Indian state of Kerala [aka Malayalees] are all over the world. Wherever they are, they make one of the largest market segments by remaining a healthy, educated, learned, clean, happy, interactive, social, political, upwardly mobile, ambitious, smart... community. And wherever they are, they always love to be communicated or entertained in Malayalam.
Here is the proof:
- Kerala, with its more than 35 million population, is one of the largest, growing and already-advanced markets for any product category - from cosmetics to building materials and from telecommunications to financial services - with a huge, matured and ever-growing presence of media and entertainment that include print, radio, tv, online, outdoor, cinema, etc.
- There are more than 10 major Malayalam dailies published in Malayalam, with editions in other Indian cities and in the Gulf countries. A few of them are among the world's biggest in circulation, each with more than a million copies a day. Their online editions are also among the top 10 in the category, with people of Kerala-origin are all over the world.
- Niche magazines for women, children, healthcare, business, personal finance, agriculture, cinema, travel, astrology, fashion, current affairs, language & literature, culture, automobiles, architecture, education, career, IT, sports, politics and crime are also there with huge circulation figures.
- There are more than 20 Kerala-based satellite TV channels in Malayalam, with footprints all over the globe.
- A small Arab nation, UAE, is home to more than 10 Malayalam media houses - 4 dailies, 4 radio stations, a couple of magazines and online media among others.
- Almost all major US cities have their own Malayalam weekly newspapers in print. And UK is fast catching behind.
So 'Advertise in Malayalam or Loose Out' is never an over-statement.
